ICC Rankings: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma Move Up In ODI List; Suryakumar Yadav Retains No.1 T20I Spo

New Delhi: India captain Rohit Sharma and ex skipper Virat Kohli have moved up the rankings as far as the ODI list is concerned as Suryakumar Yadav have retained his Number 1 T20I spot as the best batter in the shortest format of the game.In their last ODIs, Rohit and Virat scored 83 and 133 respectively, which have gave them a considerable rise in the rankings. The Mumbai Indians captain now holds the 8th position, while Kohli jumped two spots to secure the 6th position.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and batting icon Virat Kohli have made decent gains in the One Day International (ODI) batters’ rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday. Returning back to scoring ways in India’s first ODI of the 2023 season, Indian skipper Rohit played a sublime knock in the series opener against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. Joining forces with opener Shubman Gill, veteran batter Rohit notched up a quick-fire half-century to turn the 1st ODI into a high-scoring contest at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

In the bowlers’ chart, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has climbed two places to 11th, with left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh moving up a place to 21st.

Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has jumped eight places to 40th.

Virat Kohli has climbed up to the sixth spot in the ODI rankings, while skipper Rohit Sharma continued being No. 8.

The injured Jasprit Bumrah, who is 11th, is the top-ranked Indian on the bowlers’ list.

n Tests, Josh Hazelwood has made it to the top 10 as he took five wickets against South Africa in Sydney. However, Pat Cummins still remains to be the top-ranked bowler. Put into bat first, India’s top order came to the party as the hosts posted a humungous 373/7 on the board in their assigned 50 overs. The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill took the team off to a flyer and went on to form a remarkable 143-run partnership before superstar Virat Kohli took charge to bring up his 45th ODI century.

Australia’s thumping 3-0 sweep of England in an ODI series at home saw David Warner and Steve Smith hitting peak form.

Fellow veteran Steve Smith jumps three places to seventh overall, while left-hander Travis Head – who finished as the leading run-scorer for the series with 240 runs – improves 12 spots to 30th.

Former India captain Virat Kohli also rose one spot to No. 6 despite not having played ODIs since the tour of England in July.

As far as the ODI team rankings are concerned, New Zealand, England and Australia occupy the first three spots, while India are placed at 4th position. In the T20I rankings, India hold pole position followed by Pakistan and England. In Tests, Australia, India and England occupy the first three slots.

Opener Shikhar Dhawan, the leading scorer for India against South Africa with 169 runs, has moved up one place to 15th in the list led by Pakistan captain Babar Azam with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in second and joint-third positions, respectively. Rishabh Pant is up five places to 82nd.

“What you are doing in the last year is something that is very special. Something that I have not seen before,” Kohli said in the interview on BCCI.tv.
